Arthur Lazarus, M.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Lazarus is a nationally recognized speaker and commentator on healthcare management, with over 25 years experience in health care practice and administration. He is currently senior director of clinical development at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals in Wilmington, Delaware, where he is responsible for developing and managing strategic clinical trials and ensuring the scientific accuracy of information for product promotion, advertising, and labeling.
Dr. Lazarus resides in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with his wife and four children. His family has had direct experience with Lyme disease and triggered a much deeper interest in the insurance issues around Lyme disease treatment.
Before joining AstraZeneca, Dr. Lazarus served as director and medical research specialist for Pfizer Inc. He earlier had led quality management and care delivery programs at Humana, Prudential Health Care and Independence Blue Cross. Dr. Lazarus also has administered community and academic hospital and institutional programs.
Dr. Lazarus graduated Boston University magna cum laude with distinction in psychology. He received his medical and business degrees, with honors, from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is one of a handful of physicians in the United States who has been inducted into both the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society of collegiate schools of business. Dr. Lazarus holds appointments at Temple University School of Medicine, Temple University Fox School of Business and Management, and Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Lazarus is an active member of several professional and medical organizations. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and President of the American Association of Psychiatric Administrators. He previously served on the Council of Fellows of the American College of Physician Executives and led the medical students and residents online network. Dr. Lazarus has authored more than 175 articles in scientific and professional journals and has co-authored or edited four books, including Controversies in Managed Mental Health Care and MD/MBA: Physicians on the New Frontier of Medical Management. A sought after presenter and public speaker, Dr. Lazarus has shared his expertise and perspectve at local, national, and international meetings and seminars.
